Chairman’s Blog – Meeting Thursday 8th November 2012
Were we all more animated this morning as we networked prior to breakfast?? Was it because we managed 31 bodies including one soon to be member, Chris Sadler, and one guest, Peter Banks?? Was it because we were one week into “Movember” and those of us who had taken the time not to shave above our upper lip were showing off and admiring the fruits of our endeavour??
Whatever the reason there was a vigorous 60 second round. As I search for themes I recall Neil Lewer (well developed moustache) trying to sell new wardrobes on the basis that Christmas was coming and there would be lots of unwanted gifts including new jumpers. He apparently has a new one every year…jumper that is. As much as Neil was dismissive about jumpers Richard Reed was positively celebratory in a neat little pink number. I did warn you all to look carefully. Please comment on this blog and let me know what colour you think it really was. Was he trying to entice us to the coral beneath the azure waters of the Barrier Reef or a salmon befitting the fly fishermen of the Trossacks or what? Please let me know.
Alan Shaw (still some way to go moustache) was glowing in his praise of a Channel 4 documentary on empty buildings which he did not watch. Your challenge next week dear members is to base your 60 seconds on an event of any kind, including television programmes, that you did not see.
Mike Rogers has not grown a moustache or even attempted to do so. He saw his “babe magnet” image being tarnished if he even attempted facial follicles. Such a demonstration of self worth was perhaps matched only by Geoff Todd declaring that he would be cherry picking…I think that’s what he said.
The rest of the 60 second round produced various interesting references. Kevin Radford – a floater, David Plumley – drive by infections and Brian Painter told of the man who spent £6,000.00 a year on smoking. None of these individuals had made an attempt at the moustache whereas Steve Carmichael-Brown (soon to be Jimmy Edwards lookalike) and Jason Nortey (what’s that under your nose) had definitely made the effort. Howard Bullock and Scott Griffiths threw caution to the wind and extended their facial hair beyond the upper lip and down passed the mouth towards the chin – what will next week produce?
Oh yes, on the little matter of the Oscar, let’s see who was distracted and who was not. Please let me have your comments as to who won the Oscar and what particularly attracted Brian Painter to this particular 60 second rendition.
As to referrals and monies passed the numbers were good, £16,700.00 recorded and many referrals.
Let me hear from you all this week with your comments.
I can hardly wait to see you all next week.
